Work through each section in order. Stop when your issue is resolved — you do not need every step for every situation.

Use an administrator account for these steps, and keep a recent backup before making repair or security changes.

What you will achieve

Turn a fresh Windows install into a daily-driver system without missing activation, drivers, or security basics.

1) Finish security and update baseline

  1. Open Settings → Windows Update and install all pending updates, rebooting as needed.
  2. Open Windows Security and confirm Firewall and Virus & threat protection are active.
  3. Enable restore points for the system drive under System Protection.

2) Install core drivers and apps

  1. Use vendor chipset, graphics, and Wi-Fi/Ethernet drivers for your exact model.
  2. Install browsers, password manager, and backup tool before day-to-day use.

3) Configure backup immediately

Set up File History or a cloud sync profile before creating new documents.
