What you will achieve

Boot with minimal extensions to test software conflicts and run disk repairs.

1) Boot to Safe Mode

  • Apple Silicon: hold power, select disk, hold Shift, choose Continue in Safe Mode.
  • Intel: restart and hold Shift until login window.

2) Perform maintenance tasks

In Safe Mode, remove problematic login items, extensions, or recent apps.

3) Exit Safe Mode

Restart normally to return to full boot mode.
